Notes

16 CFR 1236 covers any product marketed or intended for an infant up to 5 months to sleep in that is not already covered by the bassinet, crib, play yard, or bedside sleeper rules. Inclined sleepers with a sleep surface over 10 degrees for infants up to 1 year are banned (16 CFR 1310). Crib bumpers are banned (16 CFR 1309). Phthalates (16 CFR 1307) apply because a product designed to facilitate sleep of children 3 and younger is a 'child care article' under 16 CFR 1307.2(b); CPSC's Feb 2009 guidance gives a crib mattress as an example of a sleep product.

Other requirements

  • Product registration card (16 CFR 1130)
  • Tracking label (CPSIA section 103) on product and packaging
  • Bans: inclined sleepers (16 CFR 1310), crib bumpers (16 CFR 1309)
